Once again the weather on Saturday was perfect for the last game of the year against West Bridgford. Compared to the previous Saturday against Paviors it was a "Chalk and Cheese situation". conditions for the Paviors game were atrocious and the 13 players who remained on the pitch and particularly the 6 in the pack are to be commended for the way they battled to achieve a win by the slim margin of one point to 27 points to 26.
Having beaten West Bridgford earlier in the year coupled with a good team on paper it would suggest we were in for a good encounter.
As West Bridgford took to the pitch it was apparent they were a big team, half a head taller and half a man wider in all departments! Straight from the kick off West Bridgford controlled the fame for long periods of time, their scrum half and fly half dictated the pace of the game and the ball was moved with speed from side to side with regularity. We found it difficult to get hold of the ball. On occasion our pack was dominant but on gaining the ball we seemed to lack the ability or inventivemess to make use of it. Adding to our problems, injury to key players didn't help.
Inevitably, West Bridgford were the first to score and pull ahead with 2 tries with more to follow in the second half. On the few occasions we were in possession and managed to get the ball out wide we had success with tries by Dan Carpenter and Hansen Christoffersen. AS the game progressed it developed into a 'Man or Mouse' contest with Walsall having to accept the 'cheese'! West Bridgford were worthy winners 34 - 10 points, not one of our best performances, but one to learn from.
Sendng Seasons Greetings to all of our players, thanking them for the commitments they make and to our spectators for the support they give.
